Villagers have been installed as the 2/1 Paddy Power favourites to land this year’s Choice Music Prize with Becoming A Jackal.

Cathy Davey’s Nameless at 8/1

Two Door Cinema Club’s Tourist History at 10/1

If you want to be at March 3’s doling out of the €10,000 cheque in Vicar St., tickets are available now priced €20. The list of acts who’ll be in attendance and playing live will be announced shortly.

The shortlist has been announced for the fourth annual Choice Music Prize, which is worth a cool €10,000 to the winners.

The shortlist for this year’s Choice Music Prize was announced last night on Tom Dunne’s Today FM Pet Sounds show.

Hosted by Channel 6’s Michelle Doherty and Across The Line presenter David “Rigsy” O’Reilly, the second Choice Music Prize, set out to showcase the ten best albums of the previous year and, of course, to decide a winner.

Irish labels, bands and artists often face an uphill struggle to garner recognition, even on their home turf. Which is why hotpress and HMV have undertaken their own combined initiative, to coincide with the announcement of the shortlist for the first Choice Irish music prize. As a product of this initiative, all ten albums will be specially stocked and displayed in HMV stores all over Ireland on the run-in to the announcement of the winning album later this month.
