Two Door Cinema Club scoop the Choice Music Prize

And give their loot to charity!

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 04 Mar 2011

We don’t want to say we told you so but, hey, we told you so! The Hot Press money at 16/1 had been on Two Door Cinema Club’s Tourist History to win this year’s Choice Music Prize and the chaps duly obliged last night in front of a jam-packed Vicar St.

Not being in any urgent need of a new kitchen, the Down outfit very commendably donated their €10,000 spoils to charity.

Hosted by the always delightful Alison Curtis and broadcast live on Today FM, proceedings kicked off with the sublime atmospherics of Halves and ended with a buoyant Cast Of Cheers. In between, all of the nominees performed (bar Imelda May, who expressed her delight at being nominated via a short video). O Emperor showed us how they’ve earned such legendary live status, Fight Like Apes destroyed their keyboards, Mr. O’Brien popped up in Cathy Davey’s set before performing his own melodic wonders and Adebisi Shank thrilled everyone with their leftfield post rock.

The general consensus was that it was the best Choice yet, both in terms of the night’s performances and the quality of the nominated albums, any of which would have been a worthy winner.

Anyway, can’t stop, we need to get down to Paddy Power’s to collect our winnings!

* We'll have more on the Choice Music Prize festivities later.
