Tom Dunne to join Newstalk

Tom Dunne is set to go head to head with 2fm’s Gerry Ryan and his former stationmate Ray D’Arcy as he leaves Today FM to present a new 9am to midday “magazine-style talk show” on Newstalk.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 21 Aug 2008

The move isn’t as surprising as it first seems given that Today FM and Newstalk are both owned by Denis O’Brien’s Communicorp group, and will soon be sharing the same building in Dublin 2’s Digges Lane.

Newstalk’s 9am to midday slot is currently split between Orla Barry and Brenda Power who, a spokesman insists, will remain with the station although “exact details have to be confirmed.”

It also means that with the exception of breakfast show co-host Claire Byrne, all of Newstalk’s weekday presenters will be male.

Today FM have yet to unveil Tom Dunne’s replacement, or indeed confirm whether or not the 7pm to 10pm Monday to Thursday show will cotinue to focus on rock.
