The Script hard at work on new album

Danny O'Donoghue was among those attending the Meteor Ireland Music Awards 2010 launch.

There was a big turn out for the launch of the Meteor Ireland Music Awards 2010, which take place on Friday February 19.

Nominees present in La Stampa included The Coronas and The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue who told Hot Press that they’re currently working on their second album in the James’ Street studio where their self-titled debut was assembled.

“We’ve got what we reckon will be the first single in the bag, which is good for the old confidence,” he enthused. “If anything, we’ve got too many songs to choose from, so we’re in good shape.”

Meanwhile, things continue to go swimmingly for the band in the States.

“‘Breakeven’ was downloaded 30,000 times there last week, which is our best ever tally,” Danny continued. “The record company would love us to be over in the States at the moment, but we’re really psyched about making the new record.”

Presided over by Caroline Downey, the event attracted a raft of familiar industry faces including Faction Records’ Ken Allen, RMG Chart’s Janine Nallen and Seamus Carroll, TV3’s Colette Fitzpatrick and Aisling O’Loughlin, Warner Music's Pat Creed and Darren Reinhardt, mentalist Keith Barry and his current support act Joe Cleere and Rick O’Shea who was also on duty outside in the 2fm Roadcaster.

Delighted to be back in Dublin was Mistress of Ceremonies Amanda Byram who admitted to being a bit jet-lagged having only arrived back from Australia-via-Buenos Aires four days earlier.

Along with the usual categories, rookie acts will be able to compete for the Meteor Most Promising New Artist For 2010 category by uploading a video of themselves onto www.themeteors.ie.

Whoever then gets the nod from the judges will get a day’s recording in Grouse Lodge Studios, mastering, 150 CD singles, a professional photo-shoot, sleeve design, radio/PR distribution and an Oxegen New Band Stage slot.
