The Script and Imelda May dominate the Irish Album Chart

There's also good Indie Chart news for the Saw Doctors

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 24 Sep 2010

The Script, last issue's Hot Press cover stars, have topped the mainstream Irish Album Chart for the second week running. While their new album Science & Faith takes the No 1 slot, their self-titled debut rises eight places this week to No. 3.

Remarkably, The Script aren't the only act with two albums in the top five. Imelda May's Mayhem remains at No. 2, whilst her last album Love Tattoo continues to sit at fourth. Having featured on the cover of Hot Press herself last month, this all surely speaks volumes about the pulling power of the publication!

The Script are also proving a big live draw. They have just broken box office records, selling 60,000 tickets in 40 minutes for their March tour.

Over on the Indie Chart, The Saw Doctors have gone straight in at No. 1. After nearly a quarter of a century in the business, they debut at the top this week with their eight studio album Further Adventures Of... They are placed at No. 7 on the mainstream chart.

This means The XX are knocked off the No. 1 Indie spot - the Mercury Prize winners see their self-titled Domino debut slip down two places this week. One of the Irish success stories of the year, Villagers remain at No. 2, having already spent over a month at the summit of the Indie Chart this Summer.

The Corona's Tony Was An Ex-Con and The National's High Violet make up the rest of the top 5. Elsewhere, there are new entries from Black Country's Black Country Communion, in at No. 10, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark's History Of Modern, in at No. 13, and Luan Parle's The Full Circle at No. 15.

Propping up the bottom of the Indie top 20 in its debut week is Losing Sleep by Edwyn Collins. The new release continues the former Orange Juice man's welcome return to music following his recovery from illness.
