Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival planned

The fifth international tribute fest for late Irish legend Rory Gallagher will see 63 events take place over four days.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 26 Apr 2007

The festivities will take place in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, where Gallagher was born (at the town's Rock Hospital!) and spent the first four years of his life.

Among the acts confirmed to play for the expected 4,000 visitors are the Eric Bell Band, fronted by Thin Lizzy's original guitarist; Aimon, featuring Samuel Eddy, who was the last person with whom Rory Gallagher recorded; and former Mama's Boy Pat McManus.

Among other daytime events such as guitar workshops and and film screenings, music photographer Fin Costello will hold an exhibition displaying pics of Rory performing across the world in the late 70s and early 80s.

Festival organiser Barry O'Neill commented on the wide variety of fans expected to make the pilgrimage: "We are gearing ourselves for an invasion of Rory Gallagher fans from countries such as Germany, Holland, France, USA, UK and Ireland.

"It's a real testament to Rory who toured the world extensively for close on three decades."
