Musicians hail Philip Lynott Exhibition

Damien Dempsey and Declan O'Rourke have added their names to the list of notables who have seen the event

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 29 Apr 2011

The flow of leading musicians to Still In Love With You: The Philip Lynott Exhibition in Stephen's Green Shopping Centre, Dublin continued this week, with Damien Dempsey and Declan O'Rourke adding their names to the list of notables who have seen the event. Dempsey is among the musicians who were interviewed about Philo's contribution to Irish music, especially for the exhibition, and he also features in the short film made for showing in the aptly named Stella Cinema, within the exhibition space.

"Savage," was Damo's description of the event – than which there is no greater compliment in Dublin! "It really gives you an idea of how hard Philo worked – and played." The video interview with Damien sits alongside interviews with Bono, Imelda May, Mick Pyro of Republic of Loose and others, in which the influence and importance of Thin Lizzy and Philip Lynott are discussed. Band members Scott Gorham and Brian Downey are also interviewed.

Guitarist and songwriter extraordinaire Declan O'Rourke was equally enthusiastic. "It's brilliant," he enthused, in his comment in the exhibition Visitors Book. "Very informative and personal."

Among the many other musicians who have visited the exhibition to date are Lizzy drummer Brian Downey; the man who coined the legendary 'Whiskey In The Jar' riff, Eric Bell, who described it as "a brilliant exhibition"; Eleanor McEvoy ("terrific"); Niall Toner ("absolutely brilliant"); Brush Shiels ("magnificent, majestic, almost mystical"); Wet Wet Wet man Marti Pellow ("a great exhibition") and Christy Moore, who in a poignant note, remembered Philo with love.

Declan O'Rourke's new album Mag Pai Zai has just been released. It was characterised in Hot Press by Colm O'Hare as "a stellar collection of songs, beautifuly sung."

Still In Love With You: The Philip Lynott Exhibition continues in Stephen's Green Shopping Centre, Dublin.
