Music videos from Ireland's hottest acts premiered at the Sugar Club

Eleven of Ireland's hottest acts saw their new music videos unveiled on Tuesday night at the Sugar Club, Dublin.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 13 Dec 2007

Among those chosen to collaborate with students from New York University's illustrious Tisch School of the Arts, were established acts such as Dave Geraghty, Laura Izibor and Neosupervital (pictured below) as well as a number of rising stars – including Le Bien (pictured right), Noise Control, Fred, Grand Pocket Orchestra and House Of Cosy Cushions.

The videos were made with the help of Hot Press magazine and the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, who together launch a talent search twice each year, to find the artists and bands most deserving of the video treatment.

“It was a fantastic night,” Niall Stokes, Editor of Hot Press commented. “The quality of the videos was remarkable. The various directors brought a hugely impressive range of different skills and fresh ideas to the process. Some of the cinematography was superb – there were some great shots of Dublin, for example, in Andrea Demers’ video for Dave Geraghty’s ‘It Won’t Belong’. But, overall, I think this collective of students lifted the standard to a new high.

“At a first look, there’s a few which rank up there among the best ever Irish music videos – I thought Sarith Demuni’s work for Noise Control, Jose Andre Cardona’s for Evil Harrisons and David Broad’s for Laura Izobor were all outstanding.”

"The college has been a hotbed of activity over the last couple of months, but it has all come together really well – the videos are really powerful,” said Susanne Bach of the Tisch School of the Arts.

This is the eighth time that Hot Press and Tisch have collaborated in the project, with the students on the Tisch music video course getting the opportunity to work with the cream of new – and established! – Irish talent while making the videos. Amongst the acts to benefit previously from the Hot Press/Tisch treatment are The Frames, Duke Special, The Blizzards, Republic Of Loose, Delorentos, The Walls, The Frank & Walters, and Julie Feeney.

The eleven songs that feature in the videos are: Laura Izibor: ‘From My Heart To Yours’ (Directoed by David Broad); Neosupevital,: ‘Alternative Day’ (Directed by Alex Hilhorst); Dave Geraghty: ‘It Won’t Belong’ (Directed by Andrea Demers); Evil Harrisons: ‘A Pickle Like You’ (Directed by Jose Andres Cordona); Grand Pocket Orchestra: ‘Odd Socks’ (Directed by Michael Healey), Adela Meally: ‘Party For Three’ (Directed by Ann Orrin); Noise Control: ‘Steel’ (Directed by Sarith Demuni), Fred: ‘Damn You Hollywood’ (Directed by Mathew Morganthaler), Le Bien: ‘We Don’t Speak French’ (Directed by Kelly Goeller), Autumn Owls: ‘Unspoken Pride’ (Directed by Gabriela Perez) and House of Cosy Cushions: ‘Up and Down the Hill’ (Directed by John Lamensdorf).
