Michael Jackson auction cancelled

The items previewed last month in Kildare have been withdrawn from sale.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 15 Apr 2009

The organisers of a proposed Michael Jackson memorabilia auction, which previewed last month at Newbridge Silverware in Kildare, have agreed to return all of the items to the singer who claimed that he’d never agreed to their sale.

“The auction isn’t going to take place,” confirms Los Angeles-based auctioneer Darren Julien. “We wanted to reach an agreement and we have reached one today, that is mutually acceptable and beneficial.”

In a further joint statement, Julien’s Auctions and Jackson’s camp say: “There was so much interest from so many fans that instead of putting the items in the hands of private collectors, arrangements have been made that will allow the collection to be shared with and enjoyed by fans for many years to come.”

Due to go under the hammer in Beverly Hills next week, the 1,400 lots included Jackson’s famous jeweled white glove, which was modelled for Hot Press by Mick Pyro.
