Mercury Music Prize nominees announced

For the second year in a row, there are no Irish nominations among the 12 albums shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize.

The artists and records that are vying for the prestigious award are Guillemots Through The Windowpane; Richard Hawley Coles Corner; Arctic Monkeys Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not; Hot Chip The Warning; Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan Ballad Of The Broken Seas; Editors The Back Room; Thom Yorke The Eraser; Zoe Rahman Melting Pot; Scritti Politti White Bread, Black Beer; Sway This Is My Demo; Lou Rhodes Beloved One and Black Holes And Revelations by Hot Press cover stars Muse.

Featuring the hit single, "Supermassive Black Hole", Black Holes... went straight in at No. 1 in both Ireland and the UK upon release earlier this month.

The nominations were announced by Jools Holland at a ceremony at the Royal Commonwealth Club in London this morning (Tuesday).

The overall winner will be announced on September 5.
