Lady Gaga rocks MTV awards in Belfast

The 'Born This Way' singer was one of many international stars on display...

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 07 Nov 2011

Lady Gaga was the biggest winner of all at last night's MTV Europe Music Awards that took place in Belfast's Odyssey Arena. As usual, the singer was dressed to the nines on an evening where she bagged four gongs including best song, best video, best female act and biggest fans.

Also in town was Justin Bieber who picked up best male and best pop act, the latter award handed to him backstage by Ludacris seconds after being crowned best male. Bieber's girlfriend Selena Gomez was the host for the night, and also performed with her band The Scene.

Elsewhere there were performances from Bieber, Gaga, Bruno Mars (who also went home with two honours, best push and best new act), Jessie J, David Guetta and Coldplay, who opened the evening in such raucous fashion that it left singer Chris Martin quite breathless.

It was also a glorious homecoming for local heroes Snow Patrol who took to the stage outside City Hall to a packed crowd that lined the streets to cheer them on. Back in the Odyssey, Queen were honoured with the 'Global Icon' award, recognition for their years and years of service to music.
