Kurt Cobain biopic in the works

Nirvana's Kurt Cobain is set to be the latest musical icon to have their story committed to celluloid.

Screenwriter David Benioff is said to be working on an adaptation of Charles Cross' biography of the late grunge icon, Heavier Than Heaven. The book was based in part on Cobain's unpublished diaries as well as interviews with his friends and family members. Cobain's widow Courtney Love is to serve as an executive producer on the project, which is being undertaken by Universal Pictures.

Earlier this year, AJ Schnack premiered his Kurt Cobain documentary About A Son at the Sundance film festival, while Gus Van Sant's Last Days, released in 2005, was heavily influenced by Cobain's story but stopped short of being an official biopic.

This Thursday August 7 will see Nirvana's classic Nevermind album tackled in its entirety, with Belfast musicians paying tribute song-by-song at the Oh Yeah Music Centre.
