Kings Of Leon rock Slane

The band (with a little help from Thin Lizzy), helped Slane celebrate its 30th birthday over the weekend

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 30 May 2011

Southern rockers Kings Of Leon rocked Slane over the weekend, and with support from Thin Lizzy, Elbow and White Lies, helped Lord Henry Mountcharles celebrate the iconic event's 30th anniversary.

The band, who sadly received news that their uncle Cleo had died on Friday, still put on a whopper of a performance, telling the crowd that they'd been "looking forward to this for a long time". The Followills mixed old with new, performing 'The Bucket', 'Molly's Chamber', 'Spiral 'Staircase', 'Reverie' and 'Use Somebody' in what Caleb said was their longest ever set!

They also thanked a reformed Thin Lizzy, who Caleb declared "the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world." Lizzy, (with The Almighty's Ricky Warwick on frontman duties) showed they're still more than able to rock out, belting out hits like 'The Boys Are Back In Town', 'Whiskey In The Jar' and 'Jailbreak' to a delighted crowd.

Def Leppard's Vivian Campbell (who's been on tour with the band) handed guitar duties over to Guns N' Roses' Richard Fortus mid-performance, while Warwick gave a shout-out to the late, great Philip Lynott.
