Hector expected to take over the 2fm breakfast show as Jim-Jim quits

Official confirmation is expected later today.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 18 Aug 2010

Jim-Jim Nugent chose a computer-generated YouTube video to confirm his resignation yesterday from 2fm prior to the unveiling of the station’s new autumn programme schedule.

Putting words into an automated Larry King of CNN fame’s mouth, the clip expressed his disappointment at 2fm, while at the same time thanking listeners and some of his colleagues for their support during the three-and-a-half years he spent on air with the national broadcaster.

The word on the RTÉ grapevine is that a decision had been made to axe the Colm and Jim Jim Show, and that this was the cause of the broadcaster's decision to quit. Sources in RTE have suggested that 7 to 9am breakfast show duties are now likely to be assumed by Hector Ó hEochagáin, who it’s felt will be a better “fit” in terms of handing over an audience to Ryan Tubridy, who takes over the 9 to 11am slot later this month. There has also been speculation that Colm Hayes – Jim Jim's former partner in the breakfast show – will continue to have a role with the station.

Nugent has said that he now intends to pursue a career as a stand-up while also hoping to land another radio gig.
