Hard Working Class Heroes fest announces venue change

There will be less tired feet in Dublin in September, as the Hard Working Class Heroes showcase festival will be taking place within the confines of the Pod complex, it was revealed at yesterday’s launch.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 20 Jun 2007

The Pod’s separate venues will allow the entire festival, which runs from September 28-30, to be contained in one central area. It’s a welcome improvement on previous years in which the festival was spread out across the city.

Organiser Brian Carroll explained: “This year we've moved the event to the Pod Complex in an effort to engender a real sense of community and shared experience amongst performers and audience alike.

“Owing to the set-up of the Pod Complex, the event will be under one roof and will offer the same number of self-contained venues and the same capacity as in previous years but without the travel time between locations!"

The new venue was announced at the official launch party on Tuesday night, where it was also revealed that there will be a “Scandinavian Invasion” joining the lineup, in keeping with the festival’s tradition of bringing in talent from abroad.

In addition to almost 100 bands, the festival will feature an international music photography exhibit, industry seminars and a “speed mentoring” session.

A panel of international critics and industry professional will select the best bands in Ireland to make it onto the final bill. Anyone can apply for free, provided that all members are at least 18, by submitting a demo though Sonicbids at www.hwch.net before July 19.

The Budrising-sponsored festival, currently in its fifth year, has always been dedicated to showcasing the best new talents in Ireland, and past breakthroughs include Channel One, Republic of Loose, Delorentos and many more.
