Glasgowbury Q&A with Sweet Jane's drummer

Donagh O'Brien gives the lowdown on goings-on at Saturday's Glasgowbury festival in Draperstown, Co Derry.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 25 Jul 2011

How was Glasgowbury?

The setting was beautiful, set between mountains. But the festival site itself was quite small. The stages were quite close to each other so sounds from the different stages were bleeding into each other. It was noisy backstage and it was more chaotic than most festivals we’ve been to. Everyone was really nice though.

What was on your setlist?

We played a few newish ones like ‘Witches’ and ‘Silver Dagger’ which we haven’t released yet. We also did ‘War Cry’. It was a fun set to play.

How was the atmosphere?

There were a lot people. The Northern bands had the most support though. We were up after General Fiasco and they had a massive crowd.

Any highlights?

We saw LaFaro who were really good. I didn’t know much about General Fiasco beforehand but they were quite good as well. The highlight for me was another Dublin band Le Galaxie. They started out with a small crowd but they kept pulling in more and more people.

When did you hear about the death of Amy Winehouse?

We heard about Amy Winehouse just after we got off stage. Lydia, our singer told us.
