The Hot Press Newsdesk, 23 May 2011

The Derry festival which will be showcasing 50 acts across five stages, aims to also give a platform to up-and-coming, as well as established, comedians.

Father Damo (played by Joe Rooney) who made his name in Father Ted as a whistle thief has gone on to play Timmy Higgins in Killinaskully .

Joining him for Glasgowbury’s inaugural comedy bash will be John Colleary (who also made his name on RTE by featuring on Savage Eye), Colin Geddis (I Am Fighter), Micky Barlett, Adam Laughlin, Raidhri Ward, Shane Todd and Sean Hegarty.

Festival organiser Paddy Glasgow said he was delighted to introduce a new level of entertainment to the festival, ”over the years we’ve tried to celebrate the best in new music and in recent years we’ve also welcomed elements of carnival and other forms of art and entertainment. So hopefully this will offer another platform to aspiring artists and have people smiling even more on the day.”

Glasgowbury 2011 takes place on Saturday 23 July and headline acts so far announced include Cashier No. 9, The Answer, Phil Kieran, LaFaro, Boxcutter, Foy Vance and Mojo Fury.
