Gaga and Adele top the Irish charts

Females dominate across the board

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 18 Feb 2011

Lady Gaga has inevitably shot to the top of the Irish Single charts with her 'Born This Way' smash debuting at No.1 in its first week. The song, which has already rocketed to the top of the US charts and likely to hit No.1 in over a dozen more countries this weekend was helped by a much-hyped Grammy performance on Sunday night. It knocks Jessie J's 'Price Tag' to No.3 with Jedward's Eurovision song 'Lipstick' becoming the week's second highest new-entry at No.2. Rihanna and Adele round out the Top 5 with 'S&M' and 'Rolling in the Deep' at No.4 and No.5 respectively. Adele's 'Someone Like You', buoyed by her BRIT Award performance of the song, was also the week's highest climber, up 15 places to No.9.

On the Album Charts, it's almost again a ladies-only affair with Adele topping the chart for the fourth week running with 21. The Top 5 remains the same with the only difference being Imelda May's albums switching places so that her newest Mayhem now sits at No.4 and Love Tattoo falls to No.5. Bruno Mars breaks the female dominance with Doo-Wops and Hooligans still at No.2 and Rihanna staying Loud at No.3. Adele (again!), Katy Perry, Roberta Flack and highest new-entry PJ Harvey make up the other female albums in the Top 10 giving the girls a 80% share.

On the Indie chart, Adele still holds both the first and second spots with 21 and 19 respectively. Mogwai are the highest new-entry at no.3 with Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will while Two Door Cinema Club and Villagers fill out the rest of the Top 5. See the chart in full here.
