Damien Rice participates in Nobel Peace Prize ceremony

There was no getting hammered and doing fuck all work over Christmas for Damien Rice with the Kildare man journeying to Oslo for the Nobel Peace Prize Concert.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 03 Jan 2006

Held in honour of Mohamed ElBaradei and his International Atomic Energy Agency co-workers, the other participants included Gladys Knight, Duran Duran, Sugababes and those well-known political activists, Westlife.

Two days later Damien received the best Crimbo present possible when Myanmar’s ruling military junta announced that it was releasing pro-democracy leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, from house arrest.

Rice and Christy Moore highlighted her plight in 2004 with the release of ‘Lonley Soldier’.

Following a January 7 visit to Iceland for a Nature Awareness fundraiser – the bill also includes Bjork, Sigur Ros, Mum and Damon Albarn – it’s off to New York in March for the annual Tibet House Benefit Concert in Carnegie Hall.

If you fancy a trans-Atlantic trip, tickets priced between $30 and $108 are available by calling +212.247.7800.

With Damien lining up alongside Sufjan Stevens, Phil Glass, Laurie Anderson and Allen Toussaint, it promises to be an extremely eclectic night.

As for that eagerly awaited new album of his, we hear whispers of a late May/early June release date. Stay tuned to hotpress.com for updates!
