If you're hungry for music, then the Concern Fastival on November 25-26 is the event for you. Launched by Today FM's Ian Dempsey, top musicians like The Chieftains and RSAG and comedians such as Jarlath Regan will take to stages in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Offaly to entertain those taking part in the Concern Worldwide Fast. There will also be drumming workshops, clothes swaps, yoga and 2-for-1 cinema deals.
If you sign up at www.concernfastival.net, get sponsorship and fast for 24 hours then you gain free entry to the gigs and events. Friends of those fasting can also buy tickets for the gigs on the Concern Fastival website.
Speaking today, Ian Dempsey said, "I’m delighted to launch the Fastival for Concern. We’re set to have two fantastic days filled with entertainment and fun for people who are fasting; it’s going to be a great way to get together with friends and family and raise money for an excellent cause. Over the past 40 years, the Fast has raised millions of euro that goes directly to help the poorest people in the world. I know Ireland is facing tough times but these people can’t be forgotten.”
Fast co-ordinator Natalie MacDermot added, “The Irish public have always been fantastic in supporting our annual Fast. This year we hope to grow this support by offering activities and events for Fasters to attend – so they can gather with friends and family and celebrate raising funds for a fantastic cause.”
Concern aims to raise €1 million through the Fast and funds raised will go directly to help reduce childhood malnutrition in the developing world, where Concern works with the world’s poorest people.
