Christy Moore to release 'lost' album

This week sees the unleashing this week of The Spirit Of Freedom, Christy Moore’s legendary “lost” album, which received only a limited vinyl release in 1985.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 30 Mar 2007

According to Warners Ireland, “It came about as a result of a trip he made to the H Blocks. He was brought there in a clapped out van that was used to ferry prisoners’ families to and and from the prison. He got the idea to raise money for a new van and that was the purpose of this album.”

Along with two originals – ‘Forever On My Mind’ and ‘Boy From Tamlaghtduff’ – the collection includes covers of Woody Guthrie’s ‘Deportee’, Joe Mulhearn’s ‘Grannie’s Dustbin Lid’ and a tune that was co-authored by hunger striker Bobby Sands, ‘McElhatton’.
