Charlotte Hatherley joins Bat For Lashes

She also has a new solo album ready to roll.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 18 Mar 2009

Former Ash singer and honorary Irish woman Charlotte Hatherley has gone and got herself one hell of a nixer.

“I’ve been moonlighting with the delectable Natasha Khan of Bat For Lashes,” she reveals. “I’ll be touring with them until September, starting in the UK in April and spreading like a happy disease through Europe and the USA and hitting the festivals in the summer.”

Hatherley says she’s looking forward to playing “heavily chorused guitars a la The Cure, and throbbingly fuzzed up bass, keyboards and twiddly bits.”

As soon as her BFL stint is over, Chaz will be unleashing her third solo album, Cinnabar City – the video for which is being shot this weekend and finds her “having paint thrown at me from all directions whilst wearing a super sci-fi dress. Think a happy Carrie for the future.”

I Want You To Know

That Charlotte Hatherley managed to produce a solo album as complete and focused as Grey Will Fade while holding down a day job with Ash was no mean feat. Now with that pressure removed, the results so far haven’t suggested that this has been an entirely good thing. Like ‘Behave’ before it, ‘I Want You To Know’ is a jumble of ideas that never quite gel. Somewhere in here is a fine song – you’re just hard pushed to find it amongst the mess. Hatherley has the potential, if not the right, to become a rock icon – she’ll need to make better records than this if she’s to attain such a status.
