Caught In The Net

From Smashing Pumpkins to cracking skulls, Billy Corgan certainly likes to keep busy. Elsewhere CITN investigates a real-life Hannibal Lecter & hears Karen O serenade her favourite Mexican dish.

Stuart Clark, 21 Oct 2011

Not content with giving away lots of free Smashing Pumpkins tunes – he’d make an excellent Santa – Billy Corgan has done what all self-respecting rock ‘n’ roll icons should do, which is set up his own wrestling promotions company, Resistance Pro.

A grapple (Kent Walton, we still miss you) fan since childhood, Corgan has signed up a job lot of talent including Sassy Saphire, Cheerleader Melissa, Frightmare, Hallowicked, Necro Butcher and Simply Luscious to do battle throughout the greater Chicago area. Even if you’re not an aficionado you’ll want to grab yourself one of the “You prayed… we answered” T-shirts that are available from resistance.pro for 20 bucks. You can watch Corgan talking about his new venture at bit.ly/mZqz0Q.

Billy isn’t the only A-Lister with sporting interests – Jon Bon Jovi was co-owner of the now defunct Philadelphia Soul football team and is currently trying to buy into the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons; gridiron fan Gloria Estefan is a Miami Dolphins director; Usher is part-owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team; also in the NBA Jay-Z owns a piece of the New Jersey Nets and Nelly is a Charlotte Bobcats shareholder; and rugby league nut Russell Crowe is bossman at South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Those who still have nightmares about Silence Of The Lambs should look away now. A former model who killed, cooked and ate her husband has been denied parole in California.

“The Egyptian had only been married for a month when she abruptly ended the relationship over Thanksgiving weekend by killing her husband, who was three decades her senior, and then dismembering him in their Costa Mesa, California apartment,” reads the gruesome bit.ly/na10K6 report. “Omaima Nelson, who was in her 20s at the time, cooked her husband’s head on the stove, skinned his torso, and fried his hands in oil. She then delivered garbage bags filled with the body parts to various ex-boyfriends, asking them to help dispose of the evidence and offering $75,000 for help.
