Cathy Davey Reclaims Indie No.1 Slot

Cathy Davey has surged back to the top of the Irish indie charts with The Nameless.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 09 Jul 2010

The recent Hot Press cover star is now seven weeks in the upper regions of the Indie charts, suggesting that this is an album that will run and run.

"The combination of the Hot Press cover, an appearance at Oxegen and the release of the 'Army of Tears' single have all contributed to an increase in sales," one industry source confirmed. "If Cathy gets enough radio play for the single then she could get back into the overall Top 10. That's what her team will be aiming for."

Meanwhile, the highest new entry in the indie charts this week is The Frames first album Another Love Song, originally released in 1991 - which has long been out of print and as a result became a colllector's item - and now available on the Salvo label. The re-release reflects the growing world-wide interest in the band following Glen Hansard's success, alongside Marketa Irglova, with Swell Season's superb second album Strict Joy.

The London-based Salvo have charted also with The Frames' Dance The Devil (No.16) and Fitzcarraldo (No.17), with all three albums being released following a deal with Island Records.

Other new indie entrants this week include I Am Kloot with Sky At Night (No.15) and Feeder with Renegades (No.18).
