Calling all bands! Are you a Hard Working Class Hero?

The established Irish festival for new Irish bands is asking up and coming bands to submit their demos. The chosen ones will get to perform in this year's festival.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 21 Jun 2006

The Hard Working Class Heroes festival is making a national call for bands to join the three-day, six-venue festival which takes place October 13, 14 and 15.

Its official launch on June 26 at the Filmbase in Dublin will sample some of the live talent to expect in this year, including live performances by Oppenheimer and Cowboy X, as well as ex-Snow Patroller Iain Archer, who releases his new single 'Soleil' / 'Canal Song' on July 7.

Festival founder Brian Carroll says: "We received amazing feedback from bands and fans alike last year, and we're keenly aware of the need to deliver just as exciting a festival in 2006. We are delighted to be still the only Irish festival for Irish bands on the established festival calendar, and the success of the showcase dimension is born out by the overwhelming success of artists from last year's festival."

Last year almost 700 acts applied, and this year the organisers expect even more because the application is now free.

The 06 event will be the fourth Hard Working Class Heroes festival, and will host 85 acts. It has grown to be one of the best ways for Irish bands to break into the Irish music scene, including the likes of Director and Duke Special.

Submissions will be selected by a panel of media and industry judges who make sure only the top acts get in.

The closing date for submissions is July 27 and all band members must be over 18 years old to apply. The registration process can be accessed via www.hwch.net.
