Art for John's sake

An ecologically-minded comedy duo have recycled two of the most famous names in popular music.

Stuart Clark, 17 Jun 2011

As you will already have gleaned from Caught In The Net’s bezzie mate Music News, the upcoming Vodadone Comedy Festival boasts an embarrassment of riches, one of the most intriguing being the wonderfully named Garfunkel and Oates.

Comedic licence being what it is, you won’t be unduly surprised to learn that they’re a curly-hair, moustache, MOR god and indeed male-free duo comprising of actress-songwriters Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome, who’ve been plying the L.A. club circuit for the past four years and are about to go supernova courtesy of a new HBO series, which the latter tantalisingly describes as “Glee with dick jokes!”

As the videos and downloadable songs on their www.garfunkelandoates.com website prove, those dick jokes are very, very funny and worthy of the famous names they’ve so brazenly stolen.

From there it’s but a mere mouse-click to www.bankrate.com/brm/calc/moviestar/movieS_salary.asp where you can type in the name of over a hundred household Hollywood names and discover the relative cost of what they have to pay for stuff compared to your average $30,000 grand a year American.

With a cool $18.5 million depositing itself in her bank account every year, Jennifer Aniston can buy a nice little semi-detached for the equivalent of $445.95, a car for $32.50, a laptop for $3.24, a hi-fi for 49¢, a hotel room for 16¢ and a Big Mac for .0001¢.

The likelihood of Ms. Aniston buying a burger or anything else that contains more than a hundred calories is of course miniscule, but you get the picture!

CIN has fallen head over heels in platonic love with Cassandra Croft, a young Canadian ‘vlogger’ with an upbeat world view that positively restores your faith in human nature. Watch her skits and musings on life, love and, er, cookies at www.youtube.com/user/NerdzRL.

Which just leaves time for quick visits to awesomepeoplehangingouttogether.tumblr.com (Have you ever seen Alice Cooper and Colonel Sanders in the same room? They have!); www.notracistbut.com (Some of them aren’t even taxi drivers); www.fostersfunny.co.uk (the Aussie lager company sponsors Vic ‘n’ Bob’s sketch show returns on July 4); and www.nycosmos.com (the legendary New York football team reborn).
