All Roads Lead To Liss Ard

#Lissard #Skibbereen #Stunning are going to be out in force this weekend as we prepare for one of the year's cultural highlights! Ahead of this fantastic event, we've interviewed artists set to perform at the event, as well as hooking you up with ten to see, and a guide to getting there. Read on to find out more about on of the best delights that the August Bank Holiday weekend will have to offer. West Cork is going to be alive with delights musical, literal and culinary!

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 03 Aug 2012

In this very special festival preview, Hot Press details Liss Ard’s can’t-miss attractions, provides a full festival line-up and speaks to headliners Mick Flannery, Paul Buchanan and Joan as Policewoman’s Joan Wasser.

The festival, which returns after a hiatus of more than a decade, has certainly attracted its share of celebrity cheerleaders. In the 90s, Nick Cave, Michael Stipe and Patti Smith all graced the event and proclaimed themselves smitten by West Cork’s epic landscape. Nick was so impressed he even planted a tree there. As the legion of British and Continental transplants attests, West Cork tends to have that kind of effect on people.

The 2012 Liss Ard fest lives up to its rich heritage. Headliners include Bob Mould, performing Sugar’s era-defining Copper Blue in its entirety, Paul Buchanan of the Blue Nile, whose dulcet solo debut Mid Air is a thing of wonder, Nile Rodgers’ timeless disco juggernaut Chic and singer Lisa Hannigan, touring her bestselling second record Passenger. Meanwhile local boy Mick Flannery – if distant Blarney can be considered ‘local’ to West Cork – will be waving a banner for the Rebel County.

There are also lots of non-musical attractions. At the literary stage, Nile Rodgers will be discussing his autobiography Le Freak, Paul Murray will talk about his Booker-nominated Skippy Dies and, on a lighter note, Ross O’Carroll-Kelly creator Paul Howard will read from Triggs, a memoir ostensibly penned by Roy Keane’s pet Labrador.

As if that wasn’t enough, there will furthermore be a food fair, celebrating West Cork’s primacy in the slow food movement –  a selection of festival treats will be on offer to cater for all tastes from handmade wood-fired pizzas to locally sourced barbecued meats to vegetarian stews.
