Divine Comedy return!

Neil Hannon proves that he’s still alive when he brings the latest incarnation of The Divine Comedy to Dublin’s Vicar St.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 31 Mar 2006

Tickets for the gig on May 24 are priced €25 and go on sale shortly.

Fans will be able to get a sneak preview of his new album, which features over 20 different musicians including Travis bassist Dougie Payne.

Busy chap that he is, Neil has also joined Rufus Wainwright, Beth Gibbons, The Magic Numbers and Johnny Marr in supplying a track for the new Jane Birkin album, Fictions, which is out here this week.

In other songwriting news, Tim Wheeler has been talking about how Ash’s next effort is shaping up.

“At the minute the three-piece rock band is the vibe, but that might develop with some crazy embellishments in the studio,” he reflects. “Maybe we’ll keep it raw and stripped down if it’s working for us. I don’t think you could look at any of the new songs and say they sound like a track off any of our albums.”

Meanwhile, Wheeler’s former bandmate and honorary Irish woman Charlotte Hatherley has been “knee deep in a bubbling quagmire of pop. There’s 17 songs in all. Half of ‘em recorded and the other half will be recorded next month. It seems like I’ve been quiet but behind the scenes I’ve been working like a mutha!”

Not content with singing about Kim Wilde on her debut solo album, Grey Will Fade, Chaz has shacked up with the ‘80s pop princess in the studio.

“Yeah, I did some guitaring and singing for her, a little treatette for you all! Can’t wait for you to hear it!”
