Sounding for all the world like Elton John in his halcyon days, or even Primal Scream on some new-fangled designer drug, the Scissor Sisters evoke the gloriously camp sound of New York cool. Documenting the glamorously seedy goings on of Manhattan nightlife that Julian Casablancas and his Swiss finishing-school cohorts are simply oblivious to, ‘Take Your Mama’ is a wonderful sliver of star-spangled funky disco, harking back to decadent and excessive days of yore.

Ironically (or, more likely, deliberately) it takes all of five seconds before the new Scissor Sisters' single awakens in you the urge to get up and dance like a crazy sugar-filled loon. Elton John plays on the track, which is fitting as it is the most Elton John-sounding song the man never wrote himself – lots of ‘70s glam disco flourishes that should guarantee it a place at the top of the charts.
