I’ve lost count of how many times Rollo & Sister Bliss have won our Single Of The Fortnight award this year. Whether as artists or remixers, their quality productions have consistently shaped the 1996 clubbing soundtrack. ‘Salva Mea’ – cruelly overlooked in 1995 – was the first single from the excellent Faithless album Reverence, and it now looks set to follow ‘Insomnia’ into the top ten.
“How can I change the world if I can’t even change myself” asks the haunting Celtic intro to a track that always best summed up Rollo’s trademark blend of lyrical depth with musical highs. That Celtic intro is used to full effect by Way Out West. The dreamy sequence is married to quirky breakbeats, erupting into a thumping, metallic power-house workout that’s one of their best efforts by far – tight and to the point.
The new Rollo & Bliss variation is the cheekily titled Deep Gold remix, a bass heavy groove with subtle ethnic percussion spicing things up between the two outbursts of that big, big riff. The often ignored Floating mix and the DJs’ favourite, the 1995 Sister Bliss Remix, are also included. (MK)
