Sidney Maxwell Williamson

All back to the ‘90s for shoe-gazey nostalgia trip

Edwin McFee, 17 Nov 2009

Boasting more fuzz than a class of 13-year-old boys, Heritage Centre’s second mini-album Sidney Maxwell Williamson is a riot. Songs such as ‘Stolen It Twice’ and ‘Throw Stones: It’s Easy’ have a decidedly ‘90s feel to them (i.e. they’re big on distorted riffs coupled with sugar-sweet melodies) and the production is the right side of sloppy. ‘Free Out Here’ is a little more delicate than the other tracks, but it’s still as engaging as the louder material and there are parts of Sidney Maxwell Williamson where we’re reminded of the likes of Whipping Boy, Weezer and Morrissey. Intriguing and impressive.
