We Just Are (Live)

Live effort seals Popstar status.

Celina Murphy, 19 Oct 2009

Recorded at an unnamed festival in front of a crowd of 8,000 rave-drunk revellers, We Just Are (Live) goes a long way towards capturing the madness of the much-lauded Popstars’ live show, something that studio technology just can’t manage (not yet, anyway).

The Derry trio’s deftly honed stadium sound has been recorded with precision calculation and the claps and wolf-whistles of a giddy audience only add to the Popstars’ thumping magnetism. The live version features just enough changes to the original track-list – we’ve lost the rave-centric ‘Delboy’s Revenge’ and ‘The Smile’, gained a Benny Benassi ‘Electro Sixteen’ remix whilst the anthemic ‘Rise Of Ulysses’ has been reworked into an almighty closer. Meanwhile, new tracks include the uncharacteristically retro ‘Catapult’, looming new signature number ‘Kid Roppongi’ and the electrifying ‘Rushed Jabb’.

I’m not one to tell you how to spend your hard earned e-cents but We Just Are (Live) is worth shelling out a few beans for.
