Ahead of an in-depth piece, here's an initial report on how our men Stuart Clark and Graham Keogh got on...
‘The Bullfighting Irish’, ‘Ox Factor’, ‘The Matadors Of Perception’ and ‘Bull It In A Gun’ were just a handful of the excruciating puns flying around on Friday as Team Hot Press journeyed to southern Spain to see Delorentos play at the, ahem, BUM Festival.
The acronym stands for Bienvenida Universitaria de Murcia, a very fancy freshers’ gig in the city’s Plaza de Toros, which attracted a capacity 10,000 crowd.
Messrs. McGuinness, McCormick, Yourell and Conlan were on the same bill as Wilco, the indie poptastic Hazy Janes who hail from Dundee and local heroes Lori Meyers and The Leadings.
The last on the list, who appear to be the Murcian Le Galaxie, have conjured up a killer remix of Delorentos’ ‘S.E.C.R.E.T.’ which has become a Spanish club staple. They’ve also gotten their hands on Two Door Cinema Club’s ‘What You Know’ and are hoping to make it over soon to Ireland where they’ll be very welcome.
Having previously played locally at the S.O.S. Festival – 20,000 people saw them that night – Delorentos had the crowd on side from the get-go with fans singing back all the words, and holding up signs for their favourite songs.
The Plaza de Toros made for a stunning backdrop, as you can see from the stunning gallery of our man Graham Keogh’s pictures, which can be viewed here.
We’ll be bringing you more BUM action over the coming days, along with details of another very special Delorentos gig!
