Adventures in the Modern Sci-Fi

There was much excitement in nerdy sci-fi circles this week as Fox TV released the first teaser image from Terra Nova, the new "Avatar for the telly" series that’s set to debut Stateside in autumn 2011.

Stuart Clark, 14 Jul 2010

Boasting Steven Spielberg as one of its executive producers, the "epic adventure follows an ordinary family embarking on an incredible journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a massive experiment to save the human race. In the year 2149 the world is dying. The planet is overdeveloped, overcrowded and overpolluted. With the majority of plant and animal life extinct, devotion to science has brought mankind to the brink of destruction, but has also provided its only hope for salvation. Knowing there is no way to reverse the damage to the planet, a coalition of scientists has managed to open up a fracture in the space-time continuum, creating a portal to prehistoric Earth. This doorway leads to an amazing world, one that allows for a last-ditch effort to save the human race…"

That’s Caught In The Net sold!

Murdoch’s mob are paranoid about giving too much away, but have confirmed that Terra Nova's cast will include Dublin actor Jason O'Mara who got rave reviews for playing Sam Tyler in the American remake of Life On Mars. Find out more at futurefox.blogs.fox.com.

The budget was about $149.5 million less, but veteran punky reggae man Don Letts has done a bang up job with Strummerville, a feature-length documentary, which profiles the London music co-operative that’s been set up in honour of the legendary Clash man.
