Paddy Casey, Mik Pyro among those to play benefit gig at the Button Factory

The December 15 show will raise funds for the Ana Liffey Drug Project and Coolmine Therapeutic Community.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 17 Nov 2009

The artists lending their talent to the cause will be Paddy Casey, Mik Pyro (solo, of Republic of Loose), Eoin Dillon (Kila), Eoin Coughlan, and The Sick and Indigent Song Club. The show will be followed by a live club with music from Ali & the DT’s. Doors open at 7.30pm and the first act goes on stage at 8pm.

Tickets are €20 and are now on sale from Ticketmaster and Tickets.ie as well as from Sound Cellar, Road Records and City Discs.

This unique collaborative fundraising event is between two charities who share the common goal of helping people who are affected by addiction. The Ana Liffey Drug Project and Coolmine Therapeutic Community have a successful track record of working in partnership to create progression options for people who are actively engaged in drug use.

Funds raised from the concert will be used by the Ana Liffey Drug Project towards the purchase of play equipment for their new external child friendly play area in Middle Abbey Street, while the Coolmine Therapeutic Community will use their funds for crèche and play facilities for the children of their clients.

"We are delighted that these fine musicians are also coming together in the spirit of partnership to stage this unique event," says the Director of Ana Liffey, Tony Duffin, and Paul Conlon, CE of Coolmine. "Difficult times require new thinking and this is why we are making the unusual move to stage a collaborative fundraiser - a real two for one charity event!"

The partnership between both Coolmine and Ana Liffey works on the premise that the organizations have a different role to play in supporting people who are having difficulties with drug and alcohol use. Put simply, Ana Liffey works to support people who are active in their drug use - neither promoting nor denouncing it as an activity but remaining engaged with people to reduce the harm that drug use causes, thereby creating opportunities for change. Coolmine offers a wide range of treatment and rehabilitation services predominantly focused on enabling drug free lifestyles.
