Jaded Sun played a blinder of a show in Whelan’s recently, and attendees included representatives from Kerrang and Penthouse! The latter periodical brought competition winners over to the show, and will feature the band in an upcoming edition – an unusual claim to fame for a bunch of Irish rockers.

The band have just completed a successful tour of Germany and Holland and will be releasing the single ‘Crave’ on October 1, taken from excellent debut album Gypsy Trip...

Dundalk’s Mark Corcoran joins Bad Seed Conway Savage on his upcoming slew of Irish dates – see News for details.

The Louth man has been keeping a low profile since the release of 2001’s lauded long-player If I Speak False but he assures us new material is on the way. His debut confection will be available at all Irish shows…

Dublin’s OrphanCode – Rob Davis on guitar/vocals, Jason Duffy on drums and Neil Gannon on bass/vocals make a welcome return to Whelan’ s on September 4. They’ re one of the many artists featured on the very fine USB compilation available from www.downloadmusic.ie. They also play the Powerscourt Townhouse Centre on September 11 at 7pm as part of a series of free live concerts next month...

Also a regular occurance in September will be The Bionic Rats’ Tuesday residency in Whelan’ s. The ska/reggae combo which features members from Ireland, Nigeria and Armenia are currently in the studio recording their debut album.

In a previous life some of the members traded under the name King Sativa and supported the A-List reggae likes of Sly and Robbie, Jimmy Cliff and Lee Scratch Perry...

Cork’s When Good Pets Go Bad bring their unique blend of Chinese pop/Chinese traditional/psychobilly back to Cyprus Avenue on September 3 after a roof-raising show in the venue last month…

Meanwhile in the City of the Tribes local faves The Kanyu Tree are gearing up for their Cois Fharraige with Sony Ericsson performance. They also play Dublin’s Crawdaddy (September 11); the Roisin Dubh, Galway (12); and Crane Lane, Cork (13).
