Seamus Ennis Cultural Centre launches '08 programme

The 2008 programme of events for Co Dublin's Seamus Ennis Cultural Centre sees acts like The Walls and John Spillane play in the coming months.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 15 Jan 2008

The Seamus Ennis Cultural Centre in Naul, Co Dublin will this year play host to some of today's top musicians, songwriters and artists, from home and abroad.

The Centre has had mixed fortunes over the past few years; forced to close after a fire in 2006, it later re-opened, fully refurbished as an intimate venue for a host of events.

The programme of events for the next month includes The Walls, who play on February 16, John Spillane (February 9), and this Friday (January 18), Jim Rooney & friends.

But the SECC is not just a music venue, as the coming months sees it host a theatre group (Satellite Theatre, January 19), drumming workshops (February 23) and a film club.

The film club, in particular, has attracted some high profile guests, as actor Stephen Rea pays a visit to the centre on January 31 to present his Oscar nominated film The Crying Game. Rea will host a Q&A session after the screening, with everyone welcome to attend. Admission is free for club members and costs just €6 for non-members.

Set up in memory of Irish musician, folklore and music collector, Séamus Ennis, the centre provides a unique environment for all kinds of artists, both local and national.
