The Frank & Walters go to jail

But don't worry - it's just to record a track and perform a few gigs.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 16 Jun 2006

The Frank and Walters will record the track 'Fight' at Wheatfield Prison in Dublin this month for their upcoming album.

The song is about a man who has served time in jail and is coming to terms with the real world. Lead vocalist Paul Linehan said the band have had 'Fight' in their catalogue for a while but never felt right playing it until they performed at Wheatfield last December.

"After that show, having met and talked to the prisoners we suddenly had a feel for the song," Linehan says.

Drummer Ashley Keating adds: "We're always wary of writing about things we don't know a lot about and the whole experience of playing in the prison gave us the confidence to take on the song. We thought it would really add to the atmosphere if it was actually recorded in a prison and the people in Wheatfield were kind enough to make it happen for us."

The Frank and Walters will again play at Wheatfield later in the year, along with gigs in Mountjoy and maybe even their hometown Cork's Prison. They've already announced gigs for next month in Ireland:

July 1 - Speigeltent, Cork
July 2 - Tra-Fest Music Festival, Tramore, Waterford
July 5 - The Junction Festival, Clonmel, Tipperary
July 14 - Summer Fest, The Granary, Killarney, Kerry

The album featuring 'Fight', called A Renewed Interest In Happiness, will come out at the end of September.
