Paddy Casey follows up his triumphant performance at Oxegen with two Dublin gigs in September.
The Hot Press Newsdesk, 14 Jul 2004

Paddy Casey has been hailed by many as the highlight of Oxegen, but if you missed him in Punchestown last week, here’s another chance to catch Dublin’s finest live. Two gigs have been announced for the Olympia Theatre, Dublin, for September 4 and 5. Expect plenty of excitement as the singer-songwriter takes to the stage again with tracks from his multi-platinum selling album ‘Living’, including the latest single ‘Want It Can’t Have It’. There’s also a good chance of witnessing yet another great cover version, such as on Outkast's 'Hey Ya', which Casey performed at Oxegen to an adoring audience.
Tickets for The Olympia dates are €22.50 and go on sale tomorrow, July 15.
If, however, you can’t wait until September, you can hear Paddy guest presenting John Walshe’s Going Underground show on FM104 on Sunday, July 24 in a three-hour special between 10.00pm and 1am.

Paddy Casey’s music has improved dramatically since he first emerged, the David Gray-isms of yore being replaced with something far more ambitious and colourful. ‘Addicted To Company’ incorporates swooping strings, the odd splash of brass, and even some gospel-flavoured backing vocals. Sometimes it feels as though Ireland is suffering an overdose of bed-sit earnestness. For a generation of songwriters, elegant mooching has acquired the character of a national pastime. Amidst the apparently bottomless onslaught of weepy self-consciousness, Paddy Casey cuts a solitary figure. Although no less gushing than his peers, the Dublin singer boasts songwriting chops to match.
