The Frank & Walters revisit debut in Dublin

Trains, Boats & Planes will get a December airing in Whelan's.

Christmas starts early on December 22 when The Frank & Walters celebrate their Trains, Boats & Planes debut’s 20th birthday at Whelan’s.

After playing the album in its entirety, the chaps will be taking a liberal stroll through the rest of their back catalogue and generally getting everyone in the mood for Santy. Tickets are €15.

Miles And Miles

Now when we say that this single was long-awaited, we certainly mean it: with the exception of 2005’s odds’n sods Souvenirs collection, it’s been six years since the Cork trio committed anything to plastic. If ‘Miles and Miles’ wasn’t weighed down with so much expectation, you might deem it a humdinger of a record – it certainly sounds amazing on radio, the crescendo in the chorus drilling into the core of your brain. But I have an odd feeling of having somehow expected more. And no, I can’t quite explain it either.

It’s a mark of the quality of material at their disposal that The Frank and Walters were able to discard tracks like ‘You Asked Me’ as B-sides. Lifted from Souvenirs, the group’s forthcoming rarities collection, this is another slice of the group’s indie-pop brilliance. Fast-paced and with more than a hint of Teenage Fanclub running through its sweltering three minutes, ‘You Asked Me’ is as bouncy and catchy as their cult classics ‘This Is Not A Song’ and ‘After All’. B-sides ‘How Can I Exist’ and ‘Pathways’ are equally impressive. We eagerly await Souvenirs.
