The Irish flick has been picked up by The Gersh Agency.
Songs For Amy, the film whose cast of characters includes a fictitious Hot Press journalist, could be doing brisk trans-Atlantic business in 2013.
“We’ve just been signed by The Gersh Agency which is one of the best and biggest agencies in the US and they will be looking after worldwide sales,” enthuses Irish writer and producer Fiona Graham. “It's really great news to be represented by such a prestigious agency.”
Founded in 1949, Gersh has 125 employees, 60 agents and offices in Beverly Hills and Manhattan.
Following the brokering of the deal last week in Los Angeles, Gersh’s Jay Cohen commented: “Songs For Amy is a love story with a lot of heart that will appeal to audiences in the US and throughout the world. We’re excited about the potential of this feel-good film. It is beautifully shot with great performances and a fantastic original soundtrack.”
Shot in Graham’s native Galway and New York with Konrad Begg directing, Songs For Amy stars former EastEnders star Sean Maguire as a down at heel musician who writes an album for his girlfriend – go on, guess! – Amy who’s played by River City’s Lorna Anderson. Also featuring Brixton acid country house merchants Alabama 3 and Hollywood star Patrick Bergin, it premiered at California’s Newport Beach Film Festival in May where it was ranked fourth in terms of ‘Audience Buzz’, and won the Jury Award for Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking.
It’s also good news for Oranmore singer-songwriter Ultan Conlon who supplied much of the original music.
