Specials songwriter to hit Belfast in July
Award-winning songwriter Jerry Dammers of The Specials is set to do a DJ set in Belfast this July
The Hot Press Newsdesk, 11 Jun 2012

Former keyboard player for ska revival band The Specials, Jerry Dammers is back touring as a DJ. He’s headlining at The Menagerie Bar in Belfast on July 6. Support on the night comes from special guest DJ Andy Paraskos.
After the band split in the late eighties, Dammers gigged as a DJ in London nightclubs, as well as with his new band, The Spatial AKA Orchestra.
Best known for material such as the 1984 political hit ‘Free Nelson Mandela’, and his version of The Pioneers 1969 single ‘Starvation’, Dammers refused to join the rest of the cast of The Specials for their 2009 reformation, citing “the dimisnishing returns of setting out as a flawed nostalgia act in small venues”. It means no.
Tickets are available for £8 including booking fee, and doors are at 9:00pm.
