RTÉ 2fm have across-the-board JNLR success

Most notably, Ryan Tubridy is attracting more listeners...

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 27 Jul 2012

Another station performing well in the latest JNLR ratings is 2fm.

Hector Ó hEochagáin has added 8,000 Breakfast With… listeners over the past year with Colm Hayes, Larry Gogan, Rick O’Shea, Will Leahy, Dave Fanning, Jenny Greene and Jenny Huston also registering daytime weekday gains.

Perhaps even more significant is the 3,000 extra people tuning into Ryan Tubridy who’d found Gerry Ryan a very tough act to follow. There had been speculation that a move to either RTÉ Radio One or BBC Radio Two was on the cards, but it would seem that Tubridy has now found his mid-morning feet.

“A clean sweep of book-on-book successes, across the 2fm daytime schedule, has been our goal now for over two years,” says station head John McMahon. “Listeners have returned in their thousands to 2fm, and this is thanks to the commitment from all programmes, the flair with which we covered Euro 2012, the energy of big events like the 2fm Toy Appeal. But we also need to keep our heads: the challenge now is to maintain growth, and prove to listener and advertiser alike that 2fm is where they want to be.”

But his bizarre new regime doesn’t seem to phase the Navan-born broadcaster and comedian, who is taking everything in his stride.
