The Plateau Sessions

The Workman’s Club, Dublin

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 21 Sep 2012

The Plateau Sessions, in the Workman’s candlelit upstairs lounge, is a place for established and emerging artists to come together. Anyone is welcome to join in.

This week’s special guests were The Chapters. The Dublin group are back with the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2009 debut album Perfect Strangers. They treated the modestly-sized audience to an acoustic set of some of their delightful new material. Trumpeting a more mellowed-out sound that might remind you of Elbow, they played a Pans Labyrinth-inspired track called ‘Beneath My Pillow’. Next came the delicate ‘Jaded Stoic’ before they slowed it right down for the charming ‘Bees In A Jar’, finishing with an impressive cover of The Band’s ‘Tears Of Rage’. They may just be on album number two, but The Chapters are no newbies on the scene and have spent the last few years honing their aesthetic. Expect something different and more self-assured this time around. The next session takes place September 25.
